Baja To Open A Pedestrian Store

BAJA DUTY FREE, the best duty free retailer on the southern border, is pleased to announce the signing of a lease for a pedestrian store. The store is located across the street from the San Ysidro Trolley Station, adjacent to the San Diego, U.S./Tijuana, Mexico pedestrian/vehicular Port of Entry and is expected to open in July 2002.

On average more than 28,000 people per day use the transportation hub to access various transit modes such as inter-city buses, local buses, trolleys and taxis.  During the next 2 years, reconstruction of the San Ysidro Transit Station near the International Border will occur.  The redevelopment includes an enlarged pedestrian plaza; separate bus, jitney and inter-city bus bays; and a new Rail Court entrance.  This project will provide benefits by easing vehicle congestion, enhancing pedestrian movement and centralizing modes of transportation.

Baja Duty Free will be the only duty free store located at the inter-modal transit center.  The 1,200 sq. ft. pedestrian store will consist of traditional, core, duty free products.  45% of people crossing into the U.S. are pedestrians.  This location will enable these shoppers to purchase traditional duty free products in a quick and convenient manner.

With the opening of this fifth location and its years of experience in the duty free industry, Fairn & Swanson, Inc. continues to successfully expand their retail division.
