Press Release Duty Free News Orlando,
March 24, 2003
Baja Captures Pedestrian Traffic In San Ysidro The heighten security measures implemented in the last few years has resulted in 4 to 6 hours delays for vehicular traffic at the San Ysidro/Tijuana Port of Entry. As a result of these extreme delays, more and more people are utilizing public transportation to the border and crossing by foot. “With the heighten security at the border, we realized there was a need for a store at this location; a store that is conveniently located for all pedestrians in the transit center,” says Elisa Castro, Director of Retail for Fairn and Swanson. “This location will enable these shoppers to purchase traditional duty free products in a quick and convenient manner.”
The benefits from this prime location will continue to grow as the Metropolitan Transit Development Board redevelop and enhance the San Ysidro Intermodal Transportation Center. On average more than 28,000 people per day use the transportation hub to access various transit modes such as inter-city buses, local buses, trolleys and taxis. Anticipated to be complete by Fall of 2003, the estimated $20 million project will enhance pedestrian movement between the transit services, local businesses and the international border. With this newest location, Fairn & Swanson will continue to see success.
